What Happened at the Port of Hamburg
On Monday afternoon 25 August 2025, serious fire erupted in a warehouse at the Port of Hamburg, sparked by a vehicle ignition that led to explosions involving pressurized gas cylinders.
The blaze injured between five and ten people, several in critical or serious condition, and prompted the evacuation of about 25 people.
Multiple explosions scattered debris far and wide, even onto the nearby A1 motorway, which was temporarily forced to close.
Over 120 firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the fire over more than 20 hours, battling toxic fumes and smoldering embers before bringing it under control.
