PIL leaving Asia/Europe theatre after 15 years of operation
Singapore container line Pacific International Lines (PIL) is withdrawing from the Asia – Europe trade from April.
According to analyst Alphaliner PIL will stop serving the Asia – Europe trade after 15 years. It currently serves the trade via slots with Cosco on the Ocean Alliance NUE3/AEU3 service and the last sailing with PIL cargo will be 7 April departing Ningbo and arriving Antwerp on 10 May.
Cosco will absorb PIL capacity on this route
The move by PIL will have no impact on capacity on the Asia – Europe trade with Cosco expected to take back the roughly 500 teu per week sold by PIL, Alphaliner said.
PIL first entered the Asia – Europe trade in 2004 with Wan Hai in a joint service. Since June 2011 PIL has served the trade through a slot share Cosco.
