Airfreight has boosted it’s volumes again in October with an increase of 3.1% in comparison with September according to IATA.
Alexandre De Juniac, IATA’s CEO and general director stated : “Cargo is a tough business, but we can be cautiously optimistic as we approach the end of 2018. Slow but steady growth continues despite trade tensions. The growth of e-commerce is more than making up for sluggishness in more traditional markets.
According to global analyst WorldACD the improvement was registered in three main regions. The Asia Pacific trade saw the largest increase resulting in export growth of 4.2 pct on exports and 2.7 pct on imports. For Europe the figures registered were 0.5 pct and 2.7 pct and Middle East to/from South Asia saw a growth of respectively 3.4 pct and 0.1 pct.
Although this give the impression things are turning for the better, the enthusiasm was tempered by the decline in load factors by 1.1 pct on last year’s 50.4 pct.
