European airports facing loss of volumes in 2019

During Q1/2019, freight traffic at the airports which shared their data with the European trade body ACI Europe, declined by 1.8% year-on-year. All four leading stations lost volumes and remained at the positions they held one year before: FRA (467,301 t, -1.3%), CDG (462,143 t, -1.9%), LHR (408,174 t, -2.1%) and AMS (383,213 t, -7.4%).

They are followed by three airports which gained volumes: The old Istanbul airport bowed out on a strong note (310,194 t, +6.6%), while LEJ (301,844 t, +1.1%) reported a monthly record in March (110,419 t) and LGG (222,974 t) made the highest jump in rankings (from 9 to 7) and volume increase (+12.5%). Both LUX (198,825 t, -8.7%) and CGN (194,273 t, -5%) lost volumes. The top 10 group is rounded off by Madrid (129,562 t, +5.7%), which returned after a long absence.
