French container operator CMA CGM has announced the order of six vessels with capacities of
14.000teu’s with the South Korean yard Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan shipyard. The delivery is scheduled early 2017.
The French container line is presently ranked third on the global container capacity scheme running behind Danish Maerks Line and Swiss based Mediterranean Shipping Co.
CMA CGM is the third container line having ordered recently vessels with this size of capacity.
They are following orders of Evergreen with 21 ships totaling 338.000 teu’s and MSC with 14 post-Panamax vessels and 17 VLCS ships totaling 425.000 teu.
CMA CGM’s Bougainville with a 18.000 teu capacity is due for delivery next month from the Samsung shipyard in South Korea. Three more 18.000 teu vessels chartered to CMA CGM from CSSC Hong Kong are being built in Shanghai for delivery late 2015. Three more 20.600 teu vessels have been ordered last October and are set for delivery during the second half of 2017.
Presently CMA CGM has 259 vessels in service and another 37 on order.
