SIA load factor falling with 3.8%

Reporting on its January freight statistics, Singapore Airlines Cargo (SIA Cargo) has revealed that its cargo load factor fell by 3.8 percentage points compared to the same month of 2018 – down from 61.9% to 58.1%.

That was because cargo traffic (as measured in freight tonne-kilometres) fell by 6.2% year on year from 584.1m to 548m, while capacity remained flat against last year at about 943m available freight tonne-km.

SIA sees marginal growth with 300 tons only

The volume of freight carried actually rose marginally from 106,000 tonnes to 106,300 tonnes, however. All the regions to which SIA flies cargo saw their respective cargo load factors fall, as demand did not keep pace with capacity.

SIA Cargo offers capacity to more than 130 destinations with the parent airline’s passenger fleet of more than 190 aircraft, in addition to seven freighter aircraft.
